Lieutenant Colonel Scott A. Porter (USA, Ret.) brings a lifetime of service, discipline, and firsthand experience to his storytelling. As the winner of the 2021 American Fiction Award in the Adventure, War, and Military category, he has built a respected reputation for crafting stories grounded in truth, emotional depth, and lived military reality. His career spans years of leading tank and airborne units across multiple conflicts, experiences that continue to shape the authenticity and clarity of his work.
A former US Army Ranger and disabled combat veteran, Porter shifted his mission from battlefield leadership to shaping the next generation of officers. After retiring from active duty, he taught Tactics and Leadership at the US Army Command and General Staff College, where he earned the Army’s civilian educator of the year award in 2013. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, supported by eleven writing awards for nonfiction periodicals and more than twenty historical presentations delivered at universities and veteran-focused organizations.
Porter also served as a trustee on the board of the National World War One Memorial and Museum, playing a vital role on the executive committee and serving as the keynote speaker for Memorial Day ceremonies in Kansas City, Missouri. A recipient of the Legion of Merit, he remains dedicated to lifelong learning, historical preservation, and supporting the veteran community.
